The name Sampieri derives perhaps from San Pietro. Here we are still on the coast of Scicli, 23 km distant from Marina di Ragusa. The village in winter has only a few hundred inhabitants, the reason it has not been distorted by modernity and still today consists of numerous houses and narrow limestone streets typical of the Iblei.
It has two beaches, the largest of which is about two kilometres in length. On a cliff at the end of the beach, you will see there is the "fornace Penna" dating back to the nineteenth century, (a historic and abandoned factory once used for the manufacture of bricks). It too has been the setting for the series of Inspector Montalbano. Although a small district, it is very popular in the summer.

Sampieri
Sampieri Beach is a sandy and low beach, about 2 km long, dominated by the typical Mediterranean vegetation. The beach begins near the inhabited centre of Sampieri and ends where there is the famous Penna furnace, used several times in the stories of Inspector Montalbano. Of notable tourist interest is the Lido "Pata Pata", the largest Lido in the Province of Ragusa, ideal for those who want to have lunch, dinner or rent sunbeds and umbrellas, even in the evening at “Pata Pata” there is a great nightlife for young people and for those who want to enjoy their days, late into the night.
